We all love wearing the color black right? It’s slimming, easy and no one really knows when you’ve worn the same thing for the past three days as well because it’s black. Here in NYC, black is the go-to uniform for people, especially in the winter. It’s basically New Yorkers’ clothing signature, like “hi! I’m from nyc!”
On a less dramatic note (lol), black has been the one color that has withstood time. Think to a time when it wasn’t cool to wear black? You can’t think of one right? As the other colors come in and out of style, black is a constant that you can count on. It’s also extremely easy to match – black goes with every other color on the wheel and you can still look chic when wearing black on black.
Black has been known to represent luxury, elegance and power since the 15th century. Where it was once a color to wear during mourning, the duke of Burgundy started to wear it during normal day to day. Black used to be the most expensive dye, which is probably why it’s associated with power and luxury. But as time went on, different materials came out in the color black and people still associated it with elegance. Top fashion houses began to embrace this color as the symbol for their brand such as Chanel. Going back to NYC, the people here have adapted this color as theirs since the beginning.
