Showing New York City in a Day

June 15, 2017

I had a friend who came to visit me this week but because of his busy life, he could only stay for a day. To those who live in New York City, we all know how impossible it is to see everything this city has to offer so I had to make a concrete agenda (it comes from my self-diagnosed OCD nature haha). The agenda was a concoction of what he wished to see and what I believed every person who visits NYC should see. I thought this blog post could help any of you who are planning on visiting for a short visit or for those who need some help planning what to show friends or family around the city.

Our day began early at 8:30am and we wanted to grab breakfast at the Butcher’s Daughter but due to some issues (my friend lost his wallet…but we found it!!), we had to make that breakfast into a brunch event. I would definitely recommend the Butcher’s Daughter as they have great service, food and the wait wasn’t as bad as we thought for going at 11:30am. I got the Monterey Eggs which was two eggs done over easy with sour-dough toast, avocado, salsa and potato hash. And make sure to grab yourself an iced drink because it comes with the cutest straws and to check out the servers’ shirts.

Next we went shopping in SOHO area and hit up shops such as H&M, Uniqlo and Zara. Walking around shopping gave us a chance to catch up while exploring the infamous SOHO shopping area. We walked to the World Trade Center after to walk around the memorials and to check out the Westfield Mall which is the most gorgeously designed structure. Because my friend wanted to try the craze behind DŌ which is a safe edible cookie dough, we took the subway from the World Trade Center to Washington Square Park, got the goods and relaxed for a little in WSP.

Showing most of the city was a top goal so instead of taking the subway everywhere, we chose to walk most of time (my feet are not thanking me right now). From WSP we walked towards the Flatiron District, saw Madison Square Park and headed towards the Museum of Sex. It was a super fun and uh…an interesting museum to say the least.

Since we ate brunch/lunch so late and had little snacks a long the way, we headed towards one of my fav dinner spot: Burger and Lobster. This place is a MUST as the lobster rolls there are TO DIE FOR. After, instead of seeing some other spots, we decided we wanted to wrap the night up with an Escape the Room adventure. For those of you who don’t know what that is, it is basically a game where you and your friends must figure out/solve puzzles to escape out of the room you guys are locked in. It is super fun and we did a submarine one where we were literally two steps away from winning (you have a hour time limit). And to finish off the entire day, a New York City trip would not be complete with the classic dollar New York slice so we found a place near our apartment and pigged out (well at least I did).

It was a busy and eventful day to say the least but I constantly needed to keep in mind that it is okay to not be able to do everything on the to-do list or to break away from the agenda. Let the wind take you away…or whatever the saying is. New York City is one special place that even a lifetime is not enough for someone to explore completely. But I am personally going to try! Let me know if you have places for me to try out or to see…I am always down for an adventure!

Until my next lil’ thought then!
