Today’s post is quite an interesting one and one that the skincare community don’t talk about too often: MUSLIN CLOTHS! I have been using my muslin cloths for the past 2-3 years and they have drastically changed my skin for the better. There are so many benefits associated with using muslin cloths over traditional towels. So, today I am giving you the rundown on Muslin Cloths 101 to try and convince you that you NEED these in your life. And there is no greater way than to answer the 5 W’s and the H for ya!
What…
So what exactly are muslin cloths? They are natural, inexpensive and literally just pieces of lightweight fabric made out of cotton. Because they contain no toxic chemicals, muslin cloths are also re-usable and environmentally friendly.
Why…
The question of why choose muslin cloths over your hands, other towels or even paper towels, lies in the natural design of muslin cloths. These cloths have an open weave structure, allowing them to dry quickly which prevents bacteria growth. The combination of the structure and material allows them to have a natural and gentle exfoliant nature which helps removes impurities. They are proven to remove makeup more effectively and have a deeper cleanse than your hands. Using muslin cloths also leaves your skin brighter and smoother. Plus, these cloths are so inexpensive compared to other cleansing options.
Who…
There is no specific “who” when it comes to muslin cloths. Mothers oftentimes use these cloths to clean their babies because of how gentle and useful they are. YOU can use these everyday by integrating them naturally into your skincare regimen, regardless of how intense your regimen is.
Where…
Where do you use this? ANYWHERE!
Specifically, these cloths are used on the face to help exfoliate and remove impurities. However, because of their versatility, muslin cloths can be used anywhere on your body. For instance, if you have dry skin on your body, take these cloths into the shower/bath with you and use it on your entire body to gently exfoliate. There is truly no limit with these cloths.
When…
Because of the gentle nature of these cloths, you can use muslin cloths as many times in the day as you want. I personally use them just at night when I need a little exfoliation during my cleansing step.
How…
To integrate muslin cloths into your skincare regimen, I recommend using them during the cleansing step. They work with any cleanser, formula or skin-type. Rinse your muslin cloth with warm water. Place your cleanser on your face as you always do, and then, instead of using your hands, use a muslin cloth in circular motions on your skin. This helps to remove makeup, impurities and dead skin cells. Then, rinse your muslin cloth with warm water again to clean it out and then hang to dry. Lastly, during your weekly laundry sessions, throw these cloths in with the rest of your cloths for a deeper cleanse!
OR, I love to use these cloths to remove masks! Masks like clay ones really stick onto our skin when they dry and oftentimes, we are rubbing our skin too hard when removing it. Next time, you can use a muslin cloth to gently remove your mask.
And lastly, if you are craving some spa experience, take a muslin cloth, rinse it with warmer than average water and put it over your face. The warm cloth and the associated steam really brings a spa-like nature into your own home! It’s great to do before applying the rest of your skincare since it helps open your pores!
A million and one thanks for reading — until my next lil’ thought then!
