Hello—welcome back! I did a poll on Instagram on Monday (@lilthoughtswithjen) to ask whether you all wanted a blog post on my favorite mascaras or face masks. After going back and forth with the numbers and results, it somehow ended up being tied! This means writing both, but today I am going to focus on my favorite mascaras of all time!
Mascara was the first makeup item I dabbled into. It’s my one true love when it comes to makeup. ❤️ I get excited over different brushes, the shapes of the bristles, the color and the actual application. As someone who is not artistically inclined in any way, applying mascara every morning is my own form of art. I focus on the degree of my curls, making sure each lash is curled and then coated (multiple times) to perfection. I aim for both volume and length, even though some days that is asking for too much outta my lashes and the mascara 😜 I’ve tried A LOT of mascaras, from samples to whole-sized ones and from drugstore to designer. Usually I know right away when a mascara is going to work out for me within the first or second try. A little background on my lashes: they’re quite straight and a good length so getting them to stay curled at times is hard. I use the Lancôme eyelash curler everyday and with any mascara. Before I ramble too much, let’s get into my absolute favs!
1. L’Oreal—Voluminous Lash Paradise
waterproof & hydrofuge — black — $7.49
To be honest, I am someone who doesn’t usually like drugstore mascaras. With new releases all the time, I never go out of my way to grab a tube. But I heard so much about this mascara that I had to try it out myself. And I am telling you now that it us SO worth the hype! So worth it, that it’s the number one mascara I have been recommending to people whenever they ask. I prefer the waterproof version over the normal one because I think it holds my curls better and longer. It adds serious length and volume and it’s the mascara I am currently using every single day!
2. L’Oreal—Voluminous False Fiber Lashes
waterproof & hydrofuge — blackest black — $7.99
I am sensing a pattern here, that I like L’Oreal mascaras and when they are waterproof. But I also am obsessed with the packaging of this! The gold color and the triangular design is so unique and I’ve never seen it elsewhere. This is a great mascara if you are struggling with length—it truly makes your lashes look longer because it contains these micro-fibers that attach to the ends of your lashes. Don’t worry—it doesn’t make your lashes look fake at all!
3. Urban Decay—Perversion
black — $23.00
I know so many people who are in love with mascara and I can see why! This mascara seriously does everything! If you want to move away from drugstore mascaras and into the higher end ones, this is a great starting point. It boasts of containing this ingredient called Hairdensyl which stimulates lash growth. I personally don’t see my lashes growing, but still really like it because it gives me a lot of volume and the brush is a great.
4. Blinc—Blinc Mascara
black — $26.00
This one is really cool. It’s definitely not your average mascara I tell ya. They have a whole different technique towards applying mascara: instead of coating your eyelashes, you “tube” them. Essentially, the mascara create a tube around your lashes, creating fuller and longer looking lashes. I don’t think I am giving the best explanation, but trust me when I say that it works! Because you’re “tubing” your lashes, it never flakes or smudges and you are able to create a even look. While you do get longer lashes, I tend to have to layer a different mascara on top to add volume since it’s harder to build volume up when you’re tubing your lashes. It is very easy to remove though!
5. Marc Jacobs—Velvet Noir Major Volume
black — $26.00
Just like what its name says, this mascara is great for volume. One problem I have with most mascaras that claim to create great volume is that they tend to clump, which is not an issue at all with this one. The formula is great and just builds upon my own lashes to create a fuller look. At times, if I want a more minimal lash look (which is very rare), one coat of this mascara is enough to get me out the door. It’s great for those of you who have little time in the morning to get ready since this mascara just coats your lashes so well.
6. Dior—Diorshow Mascara
black 090 — $28.50
Do you see how bag the brush is? When I first got this mascara, I was a bit hesitant over that brush, but now I love it! The brush itself is soooo fluffy and I am able to coat 90% of my lashes with one swipe because it’s so big! This also has micro-fibers in it to create a fuller and longer looking lash. It’s not as dramatic as some of the others ones and you can still create a natural look. I like it because it is very build-able and a major bonus is that it smells amazing!
7. Chanel—Le Volume de Chanel
10 Noir — $32.00
This mascara will always hold a special place in my heart—it was my first mascara ever! I always have a tube of this lying around because I know it will never fail me—I’ve gone through at least 5 already. The formula is a bit wetter, which some might not like, but I overlook that with the fact that it gives serious volume. My lashes look twice as thick whenever I wear this mascara. It’s an absolute favorite that I will never part ways with.
8. Chanel—Imitable
10 Noir Black — $32.00
I’ve tried a lot of Chanel mascaras and other than the volume one talked about above, this is my second favorite. It does everything you could ever want in a mascara. From volume to length, and even separation of your lashes. It coats every lash evenly, guaranteeing that your lash will hold its curl, while promising to add both length and volume. Now, that is the way to my heart!
9. Two Faced—Better Than False Lashes Extreme
black — $35.00
This is different from the others in that it calls for a multi-step mascara routine. The set comes with a tube of mascara and then a tube of micro-fibers. There are a combination of 3 steps: 1. Coat your lashes in the black mascara, 2. Coat your lashes in the microfibers when your lashes are still wet, and 3. Go back in with the black mascara and coat your lashes a third time, then wait for it all to dry. This is perfect for the people who want to have very dramatic eyelashes even though you have nothing to start with. You can build up the intensity yourself, but it does go from 0 to 100 real quick!
10. Chantecaille—Faux Cils Longest Lash Mascara
black — $72.00
If you really want to splurge on your eyelashes then I would totally recommend this mascara. The price-tag is a bit high, but it really does do what it claims. It contains “lash peptide technology”, which makes your lashes look fuller, longer and thicker. This also promotes lash growth so basically you’re also buying a serum for your lashes, and yes, it works! The brush is double-helixed to ensure that your lashes never clump. The best part of this mascara is that it contains rose oil, which makes it smell awesome and is also good for your lashes. Of course, you can get the the lash results from other mascaras, but this one also comes with features that treats your lashes!
➰➰➰
These are my top ten all-time favorite mascaras that I’ve arranged in order of price-point! You can give me any one of these on any given days and I would be super happy.😊 After going through the pictures and this post, I noticed that I like mascaras with larger and fluffier wands over those with stiffer and shorter bristles. I absolutely love trying out mascaras, so if you guys have any suggestions, feel free to leave a comment under this blog post, under my Instagram or private message/email me—whatever works best for ya! Or if you end up buying one of these mascaras to try, let me know what you think and if you agree with me! I have linked where to buy every product on the actual product name and you just need to click it! And for all the people who voted for face masks, I will be covering that topic soon so stay tuned! 😘
Until my next lil’ thought then!
