Best Parts of Living in NYC

March 6, 2019

There are an endless list of all the best parts of living in NYC. Being someone who has resided in NYC for the past 4 years, my answer to anyone who asks if they should move to NYC is always an enthusiastic “YES”. This is the best place to be, no matter where you are in life. You get to experience so many facades of life at once and it’s a place that constantly pushes you to your limits. This bustling city has been home for so long and home to so many people. If you are truly thinking about moving to NYC, take the leap and do it! Here is my list of the best things in NYC:

There is never a lack of things to do…

The options are truly endless here. From free events throughout the year like movie screenings, yoga in the park, galleries and such to tours, shopping and recreational events, NYC has it all. Simply discovering all the nooks and crannies that the city has to offer will take up a lot of your time – there seems to be something to see all the time. Things such as restaurants, events and shops are constantly popping up every day.

You get the best of both worlds…

The different neighborhoods of NYC allows you to truly experience all different lifestyles. There are parts of town that cater to the young and working and others that are more for the mature and retired. You can get your fix of nature in the various of parks in the city, i.e. Central Park. But once you step outside of those tracks, you’re immediately placed back into the bustling nature of NYC. With all the infamous photos of skyscrapers and taxis, there are several neighborhoods of NYC that can give you more of a “suburban” and homey feeling. Quiet neighborhoods are just as abundant as the city-like ones!

You don’t have to drive…

The subway system in NYC is one of the most efficient in the US…although it does give lots of headaches to people. It’s faster most of the time to take the subway somewhere than to take a car! No matter where you want to go into the city, there is a subway route that can take you. This means, if you hate driving, you never have to drive again!

It is VERY expensive, but nothing is impossible…

The rent here is indeed extremely expensive, after all NYC is one of the most expensive places to live in the world. However, if you truly want to live here, there is a place for everyone – granted, there are some compromises to be made. Different neighborhoods have very different price points and if you are willing to give up a lil’ bit (or a lot) of space, you are bound to find something that is within your budget. And this place will definitely put your budgeting skills to the test.

People are seriously motivated…

There are moments that I still get amazed at the different stories of people who live here. They all seem to be here for a purpose. You can ask anyone why they are here and each answer will be different than the next. The constant bustling of the city emulates from the the people within it. Majority of the people here are looking to achieve more, set more goals and they always seem to have a destination in mind (literally and figuratively!).

You figure out your limits…

Our natural inclination to adapt to things around us is extremely interesting and surprising at times. NYC is definitely one of the places where you constantly have to adapt to change. Like you can have a schedule that can go array in one minute because of something totally out of your control. Through these instances, you learn about adapting to situations out of your control and you learn to balance life. I have learned so much about myself as a person through this. It boils down to finding the right times to spend time alone, with friends, working and then doing some more just to feel like you are not being too lazy. FOMO will come and go and you will learn more about yourself than ever. NYC will consistently test you – the people, the experiences and the place itself.

The diversity is unbeatable….

Coming from a small town that severely had a lack of diversity, this place give my mind a huge awakening. For the first time, I got to see people like me and then some who I’ve never had the chance to know. This melting pot means there is an endless amount of culture to experience. From the cuisine to the events, you will never get tired of everything the different people here have to offer.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
These are the major reasons why I love living in NYC. Other things like shopping, the food and hidden gems are parts of New York that no other place can top. NYC contains some form of magic that is just irreplaceable and you need to live here once in your life to experience it. Inspiration comes in all forms here, you realize just how small you are, yet a mighty part of something bigger.
A million and one thanks for reading – until my next lil’ thought then!
    I think two of my favourite things about living in NYC would be 1) having both the city and Central Park, and 2) all the museums! There definitely wouldn’t be a lack of things to do 🙂 -Audrey | Brunch at Audrey’s
