Who I Am: Sharing 5 Random Facts About Myself

February 21, 2018

Whether you’ve been here before or a new reader, welcome welcome! I’ve wanted to write this post for a while to share more of who I am and I’m finally doing it! Today I wanted to share some random facts about myself that you may or may not know already. I think of myself as someone who’s pretty easy to read (I blame it on my face expressions that can’t hide anything) so most will come to no surprise to you. From my interests to my loves, I hope these little facts about myself are interesting enough for you to come back again!

FACT 1

I am currently a Senior at New York University double majoring in Economics and Politics with a minor in Chinese. I studied abroad my entire freshman year in Florence, Italy and absolutely loved it. The traveling and self-growth that accompanied the lectures are memories I still savor to this day. It is quite embarrassing though to tell people that I now know very limited amounts of Italian. But besides from the memories, I made my lifelong friends there, from meeting my boyfriend to forming the closest group of friends I wouldn’t trade for the world.

Having spent almost 4 years at NYU, I can confidently say that there’s no better school out there for me. The immersion into the bustling city-life while balancing school and work life brings me new excitements every day. The opportunities have been endless and there is never a boring day (even the days spent at home on the couch). I love what I study and have continuously grown to be more outspoken on my opinions and random thoughts. I’m having so many mixed emotions on graduating in just a few short months. I will definitely miss learning and having a schedule, but am excited to start the real adult life. 😝

FACT 2

I am a lover of all foods….except a couple of things I am dead set against. I hate (with a passion) scallions, ginger and cilantro. I know I know…how can I be a real Asian without liking the key ingredients to every Asian dish? Somehow my taste buds have failed me in that sense and I’ve grown to cringe at the sight of any of those aromatics. I get made-fun of everyday by Alex. They all have such a strong scent and distinct flavor that I can’t get over. Maybe they’re all acquired tastes that I can one day develop.

BUT on the other side of the spectrum, eggs are my favorite! They’re delicious no matter what way you cook them and there’s not way to mess them up. And to make it even better, you can eat them for any meal of the day. My favorite dish has to be one that my dad makes for me since I was young: steamed eggs. Somehow he gets the recipe right every time and it comes out airy and fluffy. If you never had steamed eggs before, I beg you to try it ASAP! 😍

FACT 3

Some people collect souvenirs or stamps or what-not….I collect quotes! I have a little journal that I always keep with me filled with quotes that I love. Whenever I see, read or hear a quote I like, I always quickly jot it down somewhere, whether it be an old receipt, gum wrapper, or old piece of paper so I can stick it in my journal later. These quotes tend to be motivational life quotes, because I am one of those people who do get moved by them!

These quotes can be advice people give me (hi mom and dad), movie or song quotes, or random things I find while reading or surfing the web. My favorites are: “Happiness does not depend on what you have or who you are. It solely relies on what you think”—Buddha and “Never allow waiting to be a habit”—Unknown. There are so many in my little book that it was so hard to choose! 😋

FACT 4

I love puzzle games ever since I could remember. Tetris still ranks No. 1 in my heart and if you’re a fellow Tetris player, please get in touch and let’s battle it out. It’s so satisfying to see all the rows clear. And while I don’t always have a laptop or Alex’s Nintendo Switch to play Tetris on, I found another game on my phone for the Subway rides. My sister introduced me to the game 1010, which is like Tetris, and I even got my dad addicted. I’m quite competitive with games and will not stop playing until I beat my own record, someone else’s record or to get first place. I think the people around me are already sick of me trying to get them to play me so I can win…..so I need new competitors! 💪🏼

FACT 5

I love love love writing. It was actually one of the main reasons I started this blog. I found myself not being able to express myself easily through my coursework at school and needed another outlet. I used to want to become an author and write novels…probably on the topic of rom-coms because I am cheesy like that. I don’t know where that dream disappeared to along the way, but maybe it can be another goal on my list! My favorite classes throughout NYU had been the ones where I got to write…even though there were a few times my opinions got suppressed—just the process of growing, right?

To me, writing is so magical, all the thoughts floating in my head can somehow be put in a physical format to share with the rest of the world. I think a large part of it has to do with growing up learning Chinese first and being unable to convey myself to my peers in English. It was difficult and I learned firsthand how powerful communication can be. I remember the endless hours I sat scavenging through grammar books to better my writing. And that’s also why I love to edit others’ works. Reading through other people’s writing pieces is so fun to me (at this point some of you already think I’m crazy). Figuring out other’s writing styles, word usage and how they communicate through writing is so interesting. So if you need something edited, let me know! 😜

To be honest, these five facts were kind of hard to come up with. I don’t think I am that interesting and most people already know a lot of these things. I hope at least one of these facts surprised you! I’d love to know more about you guys…let me know something about you. Have an amazing rest of your Wednesday—we are halfway done with this week!

A million and one thanks for reading this post — until my next lil’ thought then!

It’s nice to meet you! I can relate to being a quote collector (Instagram, Pinterest, and even the notes section on my phone) and a writer. I majored in english and creative writing in college, and to me writing is really the only thing that makes sense.

You’re too cute! I heartily disagree with you when it comes to cilantro. I love it. I’m sorry your tastebuds got confused on that topic. 🤣

You know I read that the people that don’t like it…it’s because their tastebuds are more sensitive, and cilantro has a compound that is similar to soap.
