Welcome to the first Monday Mantra post – these posts are aimed at providing your Mondays with a lil’ more inspiration and drive to take on the new week! This week, I want to talk about the comparison game with you all. When I first heard this quote, I was so enthralled by its simplicity – we never stop to think about our thoughts until we are reminded to. For this week, I want you to tell yourself that comparisons are overrated. That you don’t need to look at what others are doing to justify or put down what you are currently doing. Where you are at in life is completely OKAY – everyone is living their own life. If you’re busy worrying about what others are doing or how you are matching up with the progress of those around you, it will be an endless and pointless chase resulting in nothing but disappointment.
I have met people who compared to make themselves feel better or to justify their own path in life. And then there are others who put themselves down because those around them are seemingly doing much better at something or further along in their goals/life. We all live our own lives, hide certain secrets and have more than our fair count of insecurities. No one willingly shows their bad all the time. So when we start comparing with others, we are comparing ourselves – all that we know about our own life – with the highlight reels of those around us. We only have time to live one life, our own. Being busy comparing it to others takes time to take care of yourself. So stop exerting wasted energy in the comparison game, there really is nothing positive to be gained from it.
I am just as guilty of this as anyone out there, but this week I am going to make a conscious effort to stop my thoughts from going down that dangerous path. Stopping our negative thoughts and focusing on feeding our minds some positivity is what we should be doing all the time. Allow yourselves to be happy for other’s successes, but don’t let it affect or even remotely define your own success.
Hope you all have an amazing week and keep this monday mantra strong in your minds! Here are some more quotes to inspire you:
